I started measuring the cross-section of ttbar pair production in fully hadronic channel. Since all of work I have done is related to measure the cross-section of ttbar pair production, probably I can understand and calculate easily.

14 Feb

Almost all crab jobs have been returned but 4 jobs are missing. Anyway, I copied all result data from CASTOR to my workplace and combined all together with tt1j, 2j, 3j, 4j samples. At first, these are resutls of tt0j samples.

There is not distinct differences in plot of Sumet3 in despite of applying JetCorrector on Jet energy. But there is an agreement in plot of Centrality with CMS Note. I thought I had better fill in Aplanarity plot without meaningless zero value and I should study about Jet reconstruction because there is clear differences between MC jet multiplicity and Reco jet multiplicity. As you can see, in MC jet multiplicity, 6 jets are the most thing but in Reco jet multiplicity, 4 jets are. The number of reconstructed jets can be changed by which method I choose. In this case, I just used SusyAnalyzer and the SusyAnalyzer chose them as reconstructed jets, so I need to analyze how the SusyAnalyzer did it and study further.

So far, I don't think I need to construct Top mass in fully hadronic channel because they have huge QCD background, almost a millon times larger. Also Filip suggested we had better change our topics to Semi-leptonic channel and I think it is a better. So, as soon as possible I will wrap up this work and start studying ttbar signal in Semi-leptonic channel ..

tt0j vs ttnj

I do not know exactly the differences between tt0j and other ttnj samples but just one thing I am sure is that tt0j can be regarded as signal. And then it is not correct but I would like to regard ttnj as background ( I commented ttbar has HUGE QCD background but I do not have enough time to produce QCD background so I just want to try to compare them as signal to background : ( ).

This plot shows the sum of transverse energy of non-leading jets excepting 1st and 2nd leading jets ( which were regarded as B-jets ). In the CMS Note, the Sumet3 should be larger than 148 GeV? ( Sumet3 >= 148 GeV? )

Conclusion

All of event selection and the ratio of signal over background tables are shown in CMS Note.

After comparing them, I realised why they, who wrote the notes, chose the cuts like that. A point in each plots, where they can clearly discriminate the signal from the background while comparing them together is determined as a cut. So, if I made QCD samples as background and then compared them with tt0j samples, I could examine their cuts and probably I could find the differences between them.

Therefore, in my conclusion I think I must try to apply various parameters on data and compare each other to figure out what I want to see ( also I should decide what I want to see at first ). In order to do that, I should correctly know the parameters and how do they affect on the results.

5 Feb

The following plots are things without tt0j sample result. CRAB is still running... At this moment, it seems that there is not any changes in Sumet3 comparing before Jet Energy Scaling. But do not forget these are results without tt0j samples.

Check list
  • Needing to compare results of jet correction with results of non-jet correction
  • Running all samples in cmsRun as soon as possible, especially tt1j.

I have been retrieving CRAB results for tt0j samples, the event number is 619000. And a batch job for tt4j samples was done but the other batch job for tt3j samples are still running.
