Pt-distribution of leading and second-leading jet in ttbar event/QCD event
  • Found the event number of QCD and ttbar in CMS NOTE 2006/077. They performed the QCD event quintuplicate of ttbar event.
  • Changed event number
    • ttbar event : 10000
    • QCD event : 50000
  • Performed same source and same cut.
  • Result :
    Pt-distribution : leading jet

    Black line : ttbar event , Blue line : QCD event
  • Conclusion :
    • These plots are very similar to two plots in CMS NOTE 2006/077. -> The cut, I used, is good for fully hadronic ttbar event.

  • Changed Cut :
    • Jet pt > 30 GeV/c
    • jet |η| < 2.4
    • 6 <= number of jet =< 8
  • Performed the cmsRun by same source.
  • Result and Conclusion :
    • Appear the signal in region of Pt < 100 and Pt > 300.
    • But QCD entry is more than ttbar entry as before.
      • -> Check the CMS Note 2006/077

Start the ttbar event and QCD event
  • Source :
    • ttbar event : tt0jet_mT_70-alpgen, tt1jet_mT_70-alpgen, tt2jet_mT_70-alpgen, tt3jet_mT_70-alpgen, tt4jet_mT_70-alpgen
    • QCD event : QCD_Pt_50_80 ~ QCD_Pt_470_600
  • Event number :
    • ttbar event : 2500
    • QCD event : 2500
  • Cut :
    • Jet pt > 30 GeV/c
    • jet |η| < 2.4
    • 6 <= number of jet =< 8
    • additional cut of the form 100 GeV/c < Pt < 300 GeV/c onthe two leading jets.
  • Drew the Pt-distribution for leading jet and second- leading jet.
  • Result and Conclusion :
    • There isn't no jet region of Pt < 100 and Pt > 300
    • QCD entry is more than ttbar entry. * => Try to remove the additional cut.

Mon. 22.
  • Printed and studied the CMS Note 2006/077 about measurement of top-quark mass.
  • Next work :
    • Choose the fully hadronic channel
    • Try to make a histogram of Pt-distribution for selected signal and background events.
      • Signal : ttbar full hadronic.
      • background : QCD

Mon. 15 ~ Sun. 21.
  • Studied CMS detector because I will do presentation about that on next Monday.
  • Studied ttbar events in PTDR.

  • Attended the first Korea CMS group physics meeting.

Thur. 11. ~ Fri. 12.
  • Made PPT file because I have to give it Prof. Kim and Oh.
  • Checked my webcam for meeting with Prof. Oh.

Wed. 10.
  • Had a meeting with ETHZ. They proposed that I should study ttbar process.
    • Study the PTDR, concerning the section on the SUSY searches with leptons+jets+MET, and there in particular the ttbar background.
    • Study the PTDR concerning the section of ttbar events as a signal.
    • Produce simple plots such as pt of the leptonss, rapidity of the leptons, angle between lepon and closest jet, MET....
    • Try to reproduce the plots in the PTDR.
  • Started to read the section of ttbar events. -> There is three channels.
    • di-leptonic channel
    • semi-leptonic channel
    • fully hadronic channel

Wed. 3.
  • Met Filip and we talked about after work.
    • He proposed that I should read and study SUSY part in PTDR before meeting with ETHZ.
    • Started to read SUSY part in PTDR.

Invariant mass of di-muon
  • Coded for making to draw histogram of invariant mass of muon.
    • Event number : 15000
    • Source : DrellYan_mumu_40
  • Analysis tool : SusyAnalyzer
  • CRAB version : CRAB_1_5_4
  • Software Release : CMSSW_1_5_2
  • Cuts
    • |η| < 2.4
    • Pt > 10 GeV
  • Result :
    Invariant Mass of MC muon

  • Conclusion :
    • The peak of this plot is about 90 -> This is Z boson mass.
